The establishment of the International Science and Intelligence Alliance in Beijing

Xinhuanet, Beijing, May 9 (Reporter Ling Jiwei) The establishment event of the International AI for Science Union was held in Beijing on May 9. The alliance was jointly initiated by more than 50 top universities, research institutes and industry-leading enterprises including Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Beijing Institute of Science and Intelligence. It aims to drive the transformation of scientific research paradigm through artificial intelligence technology, accelerate the coordinated development of scientific discovery and industrial transformation, and open a new chapter of the "big scientific research era".

Against the backdrop of "AI for Science" reshaping the discipline boundaries and connecting the industry, academia and research chains, the establishment of the alliance has received attention and support from the global scientific and industrial community.

Zhang Jin, executive vice president of Peking University, dean of Shenzhen Graduate School, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that Peking University will give full play to the advantages of interdisciplinary disciplines, link with the world's top forces, and provide core support for the field of scientific intelligence. E Weinan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the International Machine Learning Research Center of Peking University, honorary dean of the School of Science and Intelligence, and director of the Academic Committee of the Beijing Institute of Science and Intelligence, pointed out that the establishment of the alliance will further gather cross-field talents, promote the deep integration of interdisciplinary disciplines, bring greater exploration space and higher exploration efficiency, and accelerate the leap of scientific discovery from theory to practice. Guan Haibing, vice president of Shanghai Jiaotong University, said that Shanghai Jiaotong University looks forward to working with Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China and other alliance member units to build an AI-driven interdisciplinary scientific research collaboration platform to gather key elements of "computing power-algorithm-data-talent" to promote the integration of industry, academia and research and the transformation of results.

It is understood that the alliance will build an open and shared scientific and intelligent infrastructure around the five core elements of computing power, algorithms, data, problems and talents. By building a full-chain technology ecosystem of "basic tool chain-common technology platform-scenario-based application", a series of intelligent scientific research tools and open platforms are launched to help scientists break through theoretical bottlenecks and empower enterprises to achieve "meta-innovation". At the same time, a diversified funding support system will be established to provide full-chain support for technology research and development to industrial transformation. The alliance will also actively participate in the special plans for major national industries. In terms of international layout, the alliance will promote the deep integration of China's scientific research wisdom into the global innovation system through actions such as launching international competitions, formulating technical standards, jointly building multinational laboratories, and establishing academic journals, and enhancing my country's international voice in this field.

The event has a special joint results sharing session, bringing together nearly 100 government representatives, academic leaders and corporate executives. Professor Gao Yiqin from Peking University, Professor Wang Yanfeng from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Chen Linjiang from University of Science and Technology of China, founder and CEO of Shenshi Technology, Wang Long, director of Beiming Laboratory of Huawei Digital Technology Co., Ltd. and other guests shared the application cooperation results of AI in biomedicine, materials science, basic platforms and other fields. Representatives from China Mobile, Baidu, BYD and other companies conducted in-depth discussions on the alliance's development strategy. The delegates agreed that the establishment of the alliance will accelerate the construction of a two-way empowerment channel of "scientific research-industry" and inject new impetus into the sustainable development of the global economy.

It is understood that the alliance will help promote universities to build an "AI+Science" interdisciplinary curriculum system and solve the underlying theoretical problems of the industry through the collaborative mechanism of industry, academia and research. Professor Tian Yonghong, Vice Dean of the Shenzhen Graduate School of Peking University and Executive Dean of the School of Science and Intelligence, said that the alliance will seize the opportunities for global scientific research paradigm change and provide support for national strategic needs and scientific and technological progress.

The establishment of the International Science and Intelligence Alliance marks a key step in the field of "AI for Science". The alliance will use "intelligence" as the compass and "innovation" as the engine to continue to promote scientific exploration to a higher dimension and contribute Chinese wisdom to global scientific and technological development.
