New energy storage is like a "super power bank". It can regulate peak, frequency, and voltage during power operation, and plays an important role in promoting the development and consumption of new energy and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power system. In recent years, my country's new energy storage has developed rapidly and its technology is generally in an international leading position. As of the end of 2024, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage projects has been completed and put into operation across the country reached 73.76 million kilowatts/168 million kilowatt-hours, about 20 times that of the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan, and an increase of more than 130% from the end of 2023.
The new energy storage has a flexible layout, a short construction cycle and a wide range of application scenarios. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, it has directly driven project investment by nearly 200 billion yuan, promoted the construction of industrial clusters, and became a new green engine for economic development. Not only that, the new energy storage has a high technological content, a long industrial chain, and many links involved. During the development process, many innovative enterprises have been cultivated, and the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries have been promoted, and relevant talents have been driven. At present, more than 80 universities in my country have established undergraduate energy storage majors, integrated high-quality forces to build 7 energy storage production and education integration platforms, and cultivated a group of leading talents with strong innovation capabilities, an international vision and leading the rapid development of the industry.
In order to meet the needs of industrial development, relevant departments have issued policies to support the cultivation of talents in the energy storage field. The "Action Plan for High-Quality Development of New Energy Storage Manufacturing Industry" issued this year proposes to accelerate the attraction and cultivation of talents. Strengthen the integration of industry and education in the new energy storage field, further give full play to the role of industry and education integration platform, encourage enterprises to deeply participate in talent training and education and teaching links, and make the industrial colleges and on-site engineer colleges practical, excellent and strengthen. Coordinate the construction of a high-end talent training network, promote differentiated and reasonable layout of talents, and promote the orderly flow of talents and other factors across regions. Running schools based on production and teaching needs will help promote the resonance of industry needs with what students learn.
