On April 6, Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy Representative of International Trade Negotiation, presided over a roundtable meeting of US-funded enterprises. Representatives from more than 20 American-funded companies including Tesla, GE Medical, and Medtronic attended the meeting.
Ling Ji said that when President Xi Jinping met with representatives of the international business community on March 28, he fully affirmed the important role played by foreign-invested enterprises in China's reform and opening up and modernization. We will resolutely implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech. No matter how the international situation changes, China is unswerving in promoting reform and opening up. Multilateralism is an inevitable choice to solve the difficulties and challenges facing the world. China’s door to opening up will only open wider and wider, and the policy of utilizing foreign investment will not change. The Ministry of Commerce will continue to provide protection for foreign-funded enterprises in China, including US-funded enterprises, protect the legitimate rights and interests of foreign-funded enterprises in accordance with the law, and actively promote the resolution of the problems and demands of foreign-funded enterprises. China was, is, and will inevitably be a fertile ground for foreign investment in the past, is safe and promising.
Lingji emphasized that in recent days, the United States has announced the abuse of tariffs on all trading partners, including China, under various excuses, seriously damaging the rules-based multilateral trading system and seriously infringing on the legitimate rights and interests of all countries. The Chinese government strongly condemns this, firmly opposes it, and has taken decisive measures to counter it. China's countermeasures are not only to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, including US-funded enterprises, but also to prompt the United States to return to the correct track of the multilateral trading system. The root of the tariff problem lies in the United States. We hope that American-funded enterprises will trace the root cause and clarify the cause and effect, make rational voices, take pragmatic actions, jointly maintain the stability of global production and supply chains, and promote win-win cooperation.
Representatives of the companies attending the meeting said that the positive signal was sent through this meeting, and they fully realized that the Chinese government has consistently implemented the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech on March 28 and will report to the headquarters in a timely manner. At the meeting, the representatives of the company reflected the current problems encountered in investment and operation, and the heads of relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Commerce responded one by one on the spot.
