Kuai Technology reported on May 11 that JD.com's subsidiary Beijing JD.com Sanbai Lushidu E-Commerce Co., Ltd. applied to register multiple "Joyrobotaxi" trademarks, or laid out the field of autonomous driving taxis.
According to Tianyan Check, these "Joyrobotaxi" trademarks cover core areas such as transportation tools, scientific instruments, transportation and storage, and the current trademark status is awaiting substantive review.

As the leader of the e-commerce industry, why did JD.com enter this high-threshold field?
According to media reports, in 2014, Li Bin founded NIO. The following year, NIO ushered in an important A-round financing, with JD.com, Tencent, Hillhouse and others entering the market, injecting US$100 million into NIO.
According to Zhang Zetian at the 2017 NIO press conference, when Li Bin and Liu Qiangdong met, they only took 15 minutes to explain the concept of NIO, and Liu Qiangdong made an investment decision within 10 seconds.
Up to now, Liu Qiangdong holds 2.82% of NIO's shares through MaxSmartLimited family trust. This seemingly risky investment at the time is now worth more than 2 billion yuan, which can be said to be a classic case in the investment industry.
In 2025, JD Automobile Daji has 100 stores in 50 cities across the country and announced that it would invest 500 million yuan in subsidies to increase the market for old-for-new cars.
It is understood that JD.com's technical accumulation in the logistics field also provides a foundation for it to enter the autonomous taxi market.
Data shows that as of the end of 2023, JD Logistics has deployed more than 500 L4-level unmanned delivery vehicles (such as "Jingtie") in more than 30 cities across the country, with a cumulative delivery order volume exceeding 5 million orders and an autonomous driving mileage exceeding 2 million kilometers. It is obvious that JD's technology accumulation can be directly migrated to manned scenarios.
The application experience of unmanned logistics vehicles, warehousing automation and path planning systems has enabled JD.com to quickly integrate resources and create efficient travel solutions.
In addition, JD.com has reached strategic cooperation with many car companies, such as BYD and Lantu Automobile.
On April 15 this year, JD Takeout orders were 5.6 million. Just one week later, on April 22, it exceeded 10 million orders, and doubled in just one week.
It is obvious that takeaway and online car-hailing are both high-frequency consumption scenarios, which can increase users' frequency of using JD App, enhance user stickiness, and resist competitors' penetration of JD's core retail business.
However, the competition in the autonomous taxi track is fierce, and this field, including Tesla, Baidu Rake Race, Pony and Wenyuan Zhixing, are all intensively deployed, and JD needs to come up with differentiated strategies to stand out.
