Xinhuanet, Beijing, April 7 (Pi Chen) On April 7, the 2025 World Health Day theme publicity event was held at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Data released at the event shows that in recent years, the health level of women and children in my country has continued to improve. In 2024, the maternal mortality rate dropped to 143/100,000, the infant mortality rate dropped to 4.0‰, and the mortality rate of children under 5 years old dropped to 5.6‰, reaching the best level in history.

According to reports, my country's maternal and child health service system is constantly improving, the service network covering urban and rural areas is more sound, the hospitalization delivery rate is stable at more than 99%, the child system management rate remains above 90%, the treatment system for critically ill pregnant women and neonatal babies is constantly improving, pediatric medical resources are continuously strengthened, and grassroots service capabilities are constantly improving.

In recent years, my country has continued to promote comprehensive prevention and control of birth defects, and the prevention and control threshold has been continuously moved forward. The infant mortality rate caused by birth defects and the mortality rate of children under 5 years old were both reduced by more than 30% compared with five years ago, and the incidence of birth defects such as neural tube defects and Down syndrome was reduced by 21%. The vision health management of children and adolescents has been strengthened, and children's growth and development and weight management have been steadily promoted. The rate of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B continues to decline.

The level of equalization of maternal and child health services is constantly improving. Promote basic medical and health care services throughout the whole process of childbirth, and continue to implement the five maternal and infant safety systems. The national inpatient delivery rate continues to stabilize at more than 99.9%, and the system management rate of pregnant women, the system management rate of children under 3 years old and the health management rate of children under 7 years old all reach more than 90%.

At the same time, my country actively participates in global maternal and child health governance. There are currently 117 obstetricians and pediatricians in China's foreign aid medical team, providing medical services for pregnant women and infants, and training and teaching local medical staff. The foreign aid medical team also cooperates with international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund and UNFPA to continuously promote the optimization and innovation of domestic and foreign maternal and child health service systems.

It is reported that the theme of this event is "Protecting the health of mother and child to protect the future of the motherland", sponsored by the National Health Commission, co-organized by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention, and the China Family Planning Association, and hosted by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and Peking Union Medical College Hospital.
