"China's 'National Smart Education Platform' is an outstanding measure to ensure universal access and effective use of public digital learning platforms. It shows the world how to use digital technology to make teaching and learning more popular, and provides useful experience for global digital education change." On September 7, 2023, UNESCO Assistant Director-General of Education Stephania Gianni said at the 2022 UNESCO Education Information Award Ceremony.
This award is the highest award for educational informatization within the United Nations system and is awarded to China's "National Smart Education Platform".
In March 2022, China's National Smart Education Public Service Platform was officially launched. In 2024, the international version of the platform will be launched. Today, the platform has provided services to more than 200 countries and more than 10 million overseas users.
This is a microcosm of China's promotion of the internationalization of digital education. In recent years, China's digital education has set sail, narrowing the distance between mountains and seas and broadening the world's circle of friends.
At the first World Digital Education Conference, Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education of China, said in his keynote speech: "The development of digital education can allow young people of different countries, different skin colors, and different languages to learn, think and grow together in the common digital space, and allow people from different countries to carry out cultural exchanges more closely, thereby deepening exchanges, understanding, tolerance and trust, eliminating barriers and misunderstandings, promoting mutual understanding among the people, and promoting the progress of human civilization."
It can be said that the internationalization of digital education is an important part of building a new pattern of major power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, and it is also a vivid interpretation of the responsibility of major powers.

Schools in various places have become the new force in promoting international exchanges and cooperation in digital education. Guangdong established an online open course alliance for universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area to promote normalized exchanges and cooperation between universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and sent 748 courses in 13 subject categories to the Hong Kong KEEPCourse platform, with more than 100,000 students benefiting from Hong Kong and Macao; Hainan Tropical Ocean University actively promoted the deepening application of the national smart education public service platform in Southeast Asian countries through the ASEAN project; Wuhan University of Technology has created a science and technology intelligence course platform, and cooperated with many universities at home and abroad to introduce high-quality courses...

We see that technology goes overseas - China's Ministry of Education has joined hands with enterprises and universities to donate software and hardware equipment to schools in Asia and Africa, optimize campus networks, and assist in the construction of digital campuses, providing solution guidance and technical support for countries in jointly building the "Belt and Road" countries...
On the road of digital education, China and the world are moving forward hand in hand.
In 2024, the Global Digital Education Development Index released by the China Academy of Educational Sciences showed that China's index ranking jumped from 24th to 9th - China has already ranked in the leading position in the global digital education transformation.
At present, artificial intelligence has set off a new climax of digitalization, and "what is education and where is education going" has become a common proposition for the times that globally think about.
In order to further expand my country's influence and contribution to the development of global digital education, in April this year, the Ministry of Education and nine other departments jointly issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Digitalization of Education", which clearly pointed out that it is necessary to vigorously promote internationalization, deepen international cooperation in the aspects of co-construction and sharing of resources, joint cultivation of talents, and collaborative governance of education, and shape the international brand of China's digital education. On May 14, the 2025 World Digital Education Conference will be held in Wuhan. The theme is "Education Development and Change: The Intelligent Era". Experiences and thoughts from all over the world will create new sparks on the land of Jingchu.
The tide of the times is rolling forward, and China will surely use the demeanor and responsibility of a big country to allow more countries and people to share the fruits of digital education development. (Reporter Lin Huanxin)
