Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 15 (Reporters Dong Xue, Xu) The 78th World Health Assembly will open on May 19. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on the 15th that in order to uphold the one-China principle and defend the seriousness and authority of relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the WHO General Assembly, China's decision to disagree with Taiwan's participation in this year's WHO General Assembly has been widely understood and supported by the international community.
Lin Jian said that China's position on the issue of Taiwan's participation in activities of international organizations, including the World Health Organization, is consistent and clear, that is, it must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle, which is also the fundamental principle confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 2758 and the World Health Assembly resolution 25.1. Taiwan, China, has no basis, reason or right to participate in the WHO Conference without the consent of the central government. The Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party authorities have stubbornly adhered to the separatist stance of "Taiwan independence", resulting in the political foundation for Taiwan to participate in the WHO Conference no longer exists. In order to uphold the one-China principle and defend the seriousness and authority of relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the WHO General Assembly, China decided not to agree to Taiwan's participation in this year's WHO General Assembly.
"For some time, the DPP authorities and individual countries have opened up a historical reversal, deliberately distorting and challenging UN General Assembly resolution 2758, in an attempt to challenge the one-China principle. This is not only challenging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also challenging international justice and universal consensus, and challenging the international order after World War II." Lin Jian said.
Lin Jian pointed out that China's decision to disagree with Taiwan's participation in this year's WHO Conference has been widely understood and supported by the international community. This fully demonstrates that adhering to the one-China principle is what people want, the general trend, and the great righteousness lies. The international community's pattern of adhering to the one-China principle cannot be challenged or shaken.
"No matter what the DPP authorities say or do, it cannot change the fact that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China and Taiwan is part of China, and cannot stop the historical trend of China's inevitable unification and will eventually be unified. 'Taiwan independence' is a dead end, and provocations to seek independence are doomed to fail." Lin Jian said.
