According to the US bimonthly website of the National Interest website on April 12, during the three-year conflict, the Russian army suffered heavy losses, but the battle showed no signs of stopping.
In an interview with the Ukrainian news media "Left Bank" website, Alexander Sersky, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, provided some important insights on the current war process. His comments on the number of Russian troops involved in the fight are particularly noteworthy, as is his assessment of the ongoing battles in the Kursk region of Russia, where Ukrainian troops suffered major setbacks in March but are still fighting.
The report said that despite heavy losses in Ukraine, the Russian army continued to increase its troops in Ukraine. According to Sersky's estimates, the number of Russian troops fighting Ukraine is about 623,000 - an increase of about 40,000 since November 2024. These assessments of the number of Russian troops actively involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict are consistent with those of U.S. military officers.
Sersky said the Kremlin sent about 8,000 to 9,000 soldiers to Ukraine every month, recruited in Russia. According to Sersky, the main reason for Moscow's successful expansion of its military was financial incentives, not recruitment. Although Russia continues to recruit young people into the army, these conscripts are not usually sent to Ukraine to fight.
The report also said that although the Russian army suffered heavy losses, the Russian army not only supplemented the casualties, but also expanded the total number of troops fighting against Ukraine. (Translated by Wang Qun)
