US Defense Minister is caught up in "group chat leaks" again and shares information with his wife and others

The Associated Press, the New York Times and other media quoted information on the 20th, citing people familiar with the matter, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseyth created another communications application Signal group chat, including his wife, brothers, etc., and shared with senior U.S. government officials about the details of the US military's air strike on Yemen's Houthi armed targets in March this year. The content is basically consistent with the information in the "group chat door" leak incident last month.

The Associated Press said a person familiar with the matter and those who received the information confirmed a second chat group leak. Due to sensitive issues, the person concerned requested anonymity.

According to the New York Times, the second Signal chat group has 13 members, including Hegseth's wife, former Fox News producer Jennifer Hegseth, and his brother Phil Hegseth, who was hired in the Pentagon as a senior adviser to the Secretary of Homeland Security and a liaison officer to the Department of Defense. The two have been traveling with Hegsesth recently and participating in high-level meetings.

The Associated Press said that the exposure of the latest leak triggered a new round of criticism from the outside world about Hegseyth and the Trump administration, which has not yet taken action against senior national security officials who discuss military secrets on Signal.

Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, posted on social platform X, saying, "Details are constantly exposed, and we keep learning how Pitt Hegsey puts other people's lives at risk." "Peter Hegseyth must be fired."

The report mentioned that the White House and the National Security Council have not yet responded to a request for comment for the second Signal group chat incident.

On March 24, Geoffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of the American Monthly magazine "Atlantic", posted an article on the Atlantic monthly magazine website that he received a connection request from a user with the same name as Waltz in the "Signal" software on the 11th, and was joined to the "House PC Group" group chat two days later. On the 15th, a user with the same name as US Defense Secretary Hegsse sent a message in the group chat, revealing the US's upcoming combat plan to attack the Houthis in Yemen in two hours, including details such as attack targets, attack order and weapons to be deployed by the US.

US media also disclosed on March 29 that Hegseyth had attended two meetings to discuss confidential information with his wife, which further aroused the outside world's doubts about the way Trump administration officials handled confidential information.

The U.S. Department of Defense has recently expanded its investigation into the leakage of sensitive or confidential information. In the past week, four people have been fired from Hegsey's "core circle", including its senior adviser Dan Caldwell. The US "Political News Network" quoted sources on the 18th as saying that there was a power vacuum and a leadership crisis in the top leaders of the US Department of Defense, and "the Pentagon has completely collapsed."
