The reporter learned from the National Library on the 22nd that the Chinese Ancient Books Intelligent Service Platform (hereinafter referred to as the "Platform") was launched on the 23rd. Ganti, deputy director of the Information Technology Department of the National Library, introduced that the platform brings together precious ancient book resources from the National Library and the National Public Library, and applies artificial intelligence (AI) technology to ancient book character recognition, automatic punctuation, naming entity recognition, knowledge graph construction, etc., to provide intelligent and personalized ancient book reading services to the public, the ancient book academic community and scientific researchers.
When readers open a book called "Mr. Changli Collection" on the platform, the center of the page is an antique ancient book image picture, the left is the directory column, and the right is the main functional area, displaying the text generated after image recognition. When the mouse clicks the "Sentence Read" button on the right, the text will be automatically punctuated. When you click the "Translation" button with the mouse, a vernacular translation is generated below the text. The knowledge annotation function uses different colors to mark the characters, places, times, officials, works, etc. involved in the text to help readers quickly locate and understand key information in ancient books. The platform also provides readers with tools such as dictionary query, ancient and modern place names, and chronological conversion to help readers learn and utilize ancient books.
"Whether it is automatic sentence reading, verbal translation or knowledge indexing, these functions are completed by AI technology. Through continuous model training and tuning, the big model's understanding and analysis ability of ancient texts has been greatly enhanced." Xia Enshang, engineer of the Digital Resource Release and Application Management Group of the Information Technology Department of the National Library, said that the platform also equips users with AI intelligent assistants.
Special special services are also a highlight of the platform. Xia Enshang introduced that the platform brings together special topics such as "The Yellow River in Ancient Books", "Hundred Classics", and "Mountains and Seas" to show the cultural style contained in ancient books in a vivid and three-dimensional way. "For example, the special topic of 'The Yellow River in Ancient Books' integrates various ancient book resources such as local chronicles, inscriptions, maps, edicts and memorials along the Yellow River, and is related to audio and video resources such as the National Library's Open Class. Through various methods such as the Yellow River Basin Map and Knowledge Map, the classics are transformed into knowledge content that can be reached within reach, showing us the appearance of the Yellow River in ancient books." Xia Enshang said.
According to reports, the platform adopts a resource construction method of co-construction and sharing. Under the framework of the national smart library system, the National Library and local public libraries and ancient book storage units carry out resource processing in accordance with unified standards. Up to now, the platform has gathered and released more than 10,000 kinds of precious ancient book resources in the National Library and various regions, covering multiple categories of classics, history, science, and collections, and provides links to the special resources of ancient book in various provinces to provide users with more diverse ancient book reading services.
The reporter learned that in the next step, the platform will launch a mini program to provide readers with AI image recognition, verbal translation, question-based search and other functions on the mobile terminal, so as to facilitate readers to read ancient books through their mobile phones. In the future, the platform will also launch ancient book sorting and crowdsourcing modules to attract more readers to participate in the digital sorting and development of ancient books, and continuously realize the upgrade and innovation of intelligent services of ancient books.
