Trump said his administration has been working to push a deal to “save TikTok” and “has made significant progress”, but it takes “more work” to reach a deal.

In April 2024, then-US President Biden signed a "ban if you don't sell" bill passed by both houses of Congress, requiring TikTok's parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok to non-Chinese companies within 270 days, otherwise the app will be banned in the United States after January 19, 2025.

On January 20 this year, Trump signed an executive order on the first day of taking office, giving TikTok a 75-day grace period to "ban if you don't sell it." This grace period was originally scheduled to expire on April 5.
