On the afternoon of the 23rd, the "Creation Forum: Synchronizing with the Times and Empathizing with the Audiences" event of the 15th Beijing International Film Festival was held at Langyuan Station. French actor Yu Perl, director of "The Lion King" Rob Mingkov, Rao Xiaozhi, Chen Maoxian and Sun Haipeng attended the scene to explore how to establish an emotional connection with the audience with sincere works and how to respond to the questions of the times in a rapidly changing present. This forum is co-organized by the Beijing International Film Festival Organizing Committee, China Film Archives, and Beijing Film Bureau.

Playing a character is to shape the "real person"

The well-known French actress Isabel Huppel has shined at the Cannes and Venice International Film Festivals. She won the 89th Academy Awards for Best Actress and the 74th Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in the Film category and other awards. When talking about how to empathize with the audience through character creation, Yuppel said: "It was the director who chose me, not me who chose the director. I play "real people" rather than characters, and the characters are a bit abstract to me." She admitted that when she acted, she was like meeting another self or another real person, "it may be one of the audience." As an actor, she will try her best to explore all her potential in herself and show a person's versatility and mystery.

Yuppel revealed that he didn't like to think when acting, "Film movies is often a moment that is happening, and we can't have presets. I'm most willing to capture all the inspiration on the spot. I know that a shot is shooting me, so I want to show the feelings in my heart as much as possible under the camera."

AI cannot replace the human part of movies

Robert Minkov, director of the classic animated films "The Lion King" and "The Elf Mouse 2", interprets the "creation traffic code" of animated films to everyone from the perspective of the development trend of animated films, and in the context of digital technology, especially AI, influence creation. He believes that animation is actually a medium with huge growth and growth potential, able to tell different themes, different stories and different genres, and has been sought after and loved by global audiences.

Speaking of the popular AI technology, he said that he was also very shocked by the efficiency of AI technology. "We are also using this technology, hoping that this technology can be used by people and create better stories." But he also believes that no matter how AI technology develops, if the human part of the film works is lost, it will be a tragedy. "For movies, it is very important to make the audience love this story, how to resonate and empathize with the audience. We must create a picture of the human spirit and bring emotional resonance to the audience."

Cultural symbols bring a different texture to the story

Not long ago, Sun Haipeng, director of the animated film "The Lion Boy 2", took the film to participate in the screening event in Cambodia. He found that although the language and culture are different, the audience still had very positive feedback. "They can feel it whether it is the picture or the national symbols presented in the film, including the laughter and emotional points we designed."

In "Lion Boy 2", cultural symbols such as dragon and lion dance with strong Chinese characteristics appeared. Sun Haipeng believes that using these cultural symbols well can bring a different texture to the story. For foreign audiences, they will also make them curious and want to understand our culture after watching it.

Pay attention to the stories of small people in the big era

Rao Xiaozhi has always adhered to realist creation, not only paying attention to the current living conditions of ordinary people, but also keenly putting them in the context of the country, society and the times for investigation. His directed "The Road to Return" and "The Unknown" are both well received and popular. Rao Xiaozhi said that the so-called story of a small person in the great era is just a burden that is handed over to ordinary people. "When we don't encounter that, we may not be heroes, nor can we see the tragic side of us."

With its unpopular funeral theme, the movie "Broken Hell" won the third place in the box office of Hong Kong Film History and the box office championship of Hong Kong Film History. Director Chen Maoxian revealed when talking about why the film is so popular that this script was triggered by his grandmother's death, but in the early research, he found that everyone would encounter the problem of life and death. "Everyone is equal in the face of life and death. As long as you have sufficient true feelings in it, I think the audience can feel it, and they will come in. When they enter the director's world, the work will be successful." (Beijing Daily reporter Wang Jinyue)
