The US Defense Secretary transformed a "dressing room" in the Pentagon

According to the CBS and the Capitol Hill report on the 23rd, US Secretary of Defense Hegseyth recently asked a Pentagon lounge to be renovated into a powder room for senior officials to prepare before appearing. Some Democrats quickly posted on social platform X to sarcastically criticize Hegsey's move.

The Pentagon spokesman confirmed the news, but said that "the lounge mainly replaced some furniture, including a director's chair, a makeup mirror and a fill light, all items from existing stock," and "the countertops involved were built internally by the Facilities Services Bureau of the Washington Headquarters Service."

The Capitol Hill mentioned that CBS said the renovation cost thousands of dollars, but the Pentagon denied it on X. U.S. Department of Defense officials said they adhered to the principle of frugality when renovating the space.

"During this upgrade, we deliberately chose a conservative route, using a low-cost, ready-made material solution, aiming to provide the ministers and other key personnel with the support and space needed to conduct press release-related activities in front of the camera," the spokesperson added.

The report mentioned that after the news was exposed, some Democrats quickly posted on the X platform to mock Hegseyth.

The Arizona federal senator posted an animated picture of Schwarzenegger applying black camouflage in the movie "Pretty", and wrote, "This is the only makeup that our Secretary of Defense should wear."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized, “There are reports that his favorite cosmetics in the Pentagon are concealers and covering creams.”

Another Democratic Representative said, "Hergseth repeatedly used private phones to leak ongoing military operations, which is a negligence and is now wasting taxpayers' money. How will it help the military to build a powder room in the Pentagon? He should resign."

As the renovation plan was exposed, Hegsey was trapped in "Signal Gate 2.0". On April 20, many foreign media exposed another "signal gate" incident involved, accusing that he shared the plan to combat the Houthi armed forces in Yemen in a group chat where a reporter "misunderstood" from the Houthi in Yemen, and also shared the same information almost simultaneously in a private group chat. The group chat included his wife, younger brother and a personal lawyer. Some Democrats have asked him to resign, but Trump's core circle is still supporting Hegseyth.
