Renmin University of China establishes a new college

On April 23, the School of Peace and Development of Renmin University of China and the International Joint Research Center for Polar and Deep-Sea Strategy were unveiled.

Zhang Donggang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Renmin University of China, Lin Shangli, President, Chang Min, Director of the Research Center for Coordinated Development of Economic and National Defense of the National Development and Reform Commission, and Meng Ran, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of the National International Development Cooperation Agency, unveiled the School of Peace and Development of Renmin University of China and the International Joint Research Center for Polar and Deep-Sea Strategy.

The School of Peace and Development of Renmin University of China will actively expand the increase in disciplines around national sovereignty, security and interests, and make forward-looking arrangements for major topics and important topics such as the polar and the deep sea. The International Joint Research Center for Polar and Deep-Sea Strategy is established based on the School of Peace and Development to conduct in-depth research on the basic facts, core parameters and important relationships related to Polar and Deep-Sea Strategy, and provides decision-making support for the country's polar and deep-Sea Strategy and global governance.

Zhang Donggang said that promoting world peace and development is the spiritual gene for the school to integrate into its bloodline. The school established the first peace and development college in the country, which is an active and proactive approach to actively serve the major strategic needs of the Party and the country, and is an active action to face the complex and severe international situation and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. We must focus on strategic emerging fields, take two inter-college research institutions, namely the International Joint Research Center for Low-altitude Economy and Space Economy and the International Joint Research Center for Polar and Deep Sea Strategy as the engine, and accelerate the formation of an integrated platform for government, industry, education, research and application with academic innovation, policy service and industrial traction; we must take the "three major global initiatives" as the guide and take global peace and development as the topic, carry out strategic, forward-looking, reserve-oriented and non-consensus research, actively participate in the reform and construction of the global governance system, and inject strong positive energy into world peace and development and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Dong Zhiyong, vice president of Peking University, said that the establishment of the School of Peace and Development of Renmin University of China is an active responsibility and action to adapt to the trend of the times, implement the three major global initiatives, and promote the cause of peace and development of mankind. It is a milestone measure to accelerate the training of talents and discipline construction in emerging fields, and will surely inject strong momentum into the country's high-level decision-making and high-quality industrial development. Liu Jiaping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, director and chief scientist of the Polar Architecture Institute of China Polar Research Center, said that Renmin University of China has high-quality intellectual resources and historical accumulation, and the establishment of the International Joint Research Center for Polar and Deep-Sea Strategy will surely play a think tank role for the high-quality development of China's polar undertakings. The research team of the School of Peace and Development released thematic report "Chasing Dreams of the Stars and the Sea - Ten Characteristics of China's Blue Economy Innovation". The report pointed out that the blue economy composed of space and marine industries, as a strategic emerging industry, is an important area for developing new quality productivity. The report recommends accelerating the establishment of an investment growth mechanism in the blue economy, guiding social capital participation, strengthening intellectual property protection, etc., further unleashing innovation potential, promoting the integration of innovation chains and regional coordinated development, and forming an innovation pattern that matches the scale of the blue economy.
