According to foreign media reports, recently, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said during a visit to Turkey that Indonesia is interested in joining Turkey's "Khan" fighter jet research and development plan and hopes to deepen defense cooperation with Turkey in the fields of aerospace and naval.
The Khan fighter project was led by Turkish Aerospace Industry Corporation and was launched in 2011 under the promotion of the Turkish Defense Industry Bureau, aiming to get rid of its dependence on European and American fighter jets and strengthen its technological sovereignty.
For Indonesia, participating in the Khan project is of great significance. Compared with traditional Western arms exporters, Türkiye is more flexible in technology transfer, and Indonesia has the opportunity to acquire advanced fighter manufacturing technology and promote the development of its own aviation industry.
Turkish media said that in addition to Indonesia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other countries have also shown interest in cooperation in the project. At present, Turkish Aerospace Industry Corporation is working with Turkish drone manufacturer Baika to jointly study the feasibility of the "Khan" fighter jets and drones in collaborative combat.
