Xinhua News Agency, Ottawa, April 27 (Reporter Lin Wei) Vancouver, Canada police filed murder charges against the perpetrator who drove to death on the evening of the 26th.
The 30-year-old is currently charged with eight counts of second-degree murder, according to online court documents. Police said more charges will be filed in the coming days.
The police previously held a press conference and said that 11 people have been confirmed to be killed in the incident, with the deceased between 5 and 65 years old. Dozens of others were injured, some were seriously injured, and the death toll may rise.
Police said efforts are still being made to identify the perpetrator's motives, but the incident was not an act of terrorism. The perpetrator has mental health problems.
At around 20:14 local time on the 26th, a man drove to a crowd participating in a street celebration in Vancouver, causing large-scale casualties and was arrested on the spot. Police said it was the "darkest day" in Vancouver's history.
