On Monday, Eastern Time, the US Senate Democratic Committee released a 44-page special report, directly pointing out that Tesla CEO Elon Musk is suspected of evading the potential fines and regulatory penalties faced by many companies under his name through his special role in the federal government.
Page 44 report directly points to Musk using his power for personal gain and suspected of evading fines of over $2 billion
The report, written by the Democratic team led by Senator Richard Blumenthal, led by Senator Richard Blumenthal, became the most detailed allegation of a conflict of interest to date against Musk's government role.
Reform of the Ministry of Efficiency has sparked controversy
Since the Trump administration, Musk has taken the lead in establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), as a presidential adviser, leading the streamlining of federal agencies and personnel abolition. Although his radical reform measures have been publicly praised by Trump, they have been questioned by the Democratic Party for a long time.
The report pointed out that from the day Trump took office, Musk's five companies, SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, The Boring Company and xAI, are facing 65 actual or potential regulatory and enforcement actions initiated by 11 federal agencies, of which 40 may result in a total fine of $2.37 billion.
These companies include SpaceX, electric car maker Tesla; Neuralink, which makes brain implants; The Boring Company, a tunnel construction company; and artificial intelligence startup xAI.
According to the 44-page memorandum, Tesla's potential liability involves $1.19 billion for alleged misleading statements about its autopilot and autonomous driving capabilities. Neuralink could face $281 million in liability for alleged false statements about the risks of its products.
"Musk launched a chainsaw strike against the federal government, apparently ignoring the law and those who rely on projects and institutions he unbridled to destroy. The connection between many of Musk's decisions seems to be to make himself profit and avoid obstacles that he believes are blocking his interests," the report reads.
In response to the Democratic allegations, the White House issued a statement strongly refuting, saying that Musk never used his public office to seek personal gain, and the related allegations were purely false defamation.
"Mr. Musk never used his position for personal or financial gain, and any other statement is totally false and slanderous. Blumenthal clearly suffers from a weak and incurable Trump derangement syndrome."
